'A Winter Sunset, Wiltshire'
My landscape paintings are mainly in watercolour and are based on my immediate experiences. My artwork evolves from an experimental and spontaneous approach. Underlying this is an energy which comes from connecting with the elements of the natural world – the freedom of space, colour, form, and atmosphere that I see in the landscape around me. I choose watercolour as a medium because of its fluidity, translucency, and diffusion of colour - making it a pleasure to work with. It also enables a fresh, expressive style which quickly captures the atmosphere of a landscape.
For many years my home was in The Cotswolds, and my visual memories from the countryside inform my paintings. I have a background in History of Art, and initially worked in art conservation and restoration. In more recent years I trained as an art therapist. I have exhibited with the Art + Healing Exhibition at University College Hospital, London; with the TALP Open Exhibition; and several times with a local group of artists/art therapists.
