About the Artist

Born in Malta in 1972, Claire grew up with an obsession for the sea, light and the natural world. Inspired by the intense colours and surrounded by the sea she began to paint from an early age.

When the family moved to Devon she developed a love of the west country and the variety of new landscapes, filled with constantly changing light and a more subtle pallet.  A career in Law followed and then a family, so painting took a backseat for a number of years. In 2015 Claire enrolled with the Newlyn School of Art t spend a year defining her practice,  and her passion for landscape painting was rekindled.  Although she initially painted in watercolour, her practice is now predominantly in oils and mixed media.

Claire had her first of many exhibitions with the Slade Centre,  before joining the Glebe Gallery for several years.  Her paintings are in private collections across the UK and often sell prior to exhibitions. The sea remains Claire’s first love and when she isn’t painting the sea, she will be found under it. Claire has dived all over the world and has been involved in a number of marine conservation projects.

She is currently partway through a MSc in Conservation Biology specialising in marine habitats.
