About the Exhibition

Barbara feels lucky to live in Winchcombe, "the walking capital of the Cotswolds", and enjoys long rambles around her beautiful local area in all seasons, taking hundreds of photographs on the way and then developing ideas from these in her studio.

Barbara had a full career as a Primary school teacher and headteacher, and she has enjoyed learning the use of oils since retirement.

She's a graduate of the Norfolk Painting School Diploma course and keeps in touch with Diploma friends from around the country. She is a member of Cheltenham Open Studios, enjoys learning from colleagues and was delighted, as the only Winchcombe member currently, with the number of visitors to her Winchcombe studio last year.

Barbara has been a Finalist in the Broadway art competition two years running, and was awarded Highly Commended in 2022. She was also chosen to show work at the Bath Annual Open last year. She was invited to describe her working process by Painters Online last year and her painting, "Alliums in the allotment" was Editor's Choice in the December '23 edition of "Leisure Painter" magazine.

Barbara is attracted by abstraction and has begun to incorporate many textural, random and painterly techniques into her work, but says she loves the real, "seen", world too much to abandon it entirely!
