'Tristan Tulips 2'
Oil on Board

Angie was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire in 1959 and now lives and has her studio in Stroud.

Predominantly working as a plein air landscape painter with a fascination for portraying moving water, Angie is occasionally lured into still life painting in her studio by beautiful flowers!

When I first turned to oil painting after my degree in printmaking, I went to classes with a very good painter and for 2 years I worked solidly on still life painting to build up a good set of oil painting skills and knowledge of colour theory.

To me, Still Life painting is akin to life drawing, in that it demands a core set of observational skills. It is a great meditation and I often listen to music in the studio while I’m painting. In the case of these tulips it was the 2nd act of Wagner’s opera ‘Tristan und Isolde’ hence the title and the luxurious paint surface and colours.’

Angie is also a classical violinist and leader of the Stroud Symphony Orchestra.

She holds a BA in Fine Art from the University of Gloucestershire. Her work has been exhibited at Hadfield Fine Art and Little Buckland Gallery and she has recently been invited to exhibit at Spencer House Gallery in Tetbury. She exhibits and sells regularly in self curated solo shows.
