Susan Birth

'Still Life with Red Jugs'

Susan makes bold use of colour, pattern and texture and uses a variety of media including acrylic paint, inks and collage to create lively pieces that hold the gaze and attention, perhaps striking a chord or evoking a thought, emotion, mood or memory.

There are three distinct strands in her practice: representational landscapes and scenes derived from real places; imagined dreamlike landscapes; and still life including floral pieces.

In recent years Susan has had works selected for annual Exhibitions of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in Mall Galleries, London. In 2021 she was a finalist in the Broadway Open Art Festival Exhibition and had work selected for the Worcester Open at Worcester University’s Art House. Earlier this year two pieces were selected for Sixteen Gallery’s Landscape exhibition.

Susan likes to get involved in local art projects, including supporting local charities, and meeting the challenge of commissions. She recently donated an original painting for auction in support of Leonard Cheshire’s Gloucestershire House. In 2022 she completed a mixed media floral painting commissioned by Severn Arts & Worcestershire County Council for a banner celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. Susan also produced a commissioned artwork featuring the Worcestershire Black Pear as the first prize for the 2022 Worcestershire Social Media Awards.

Susan is one of the resident artists based at Yew Trees Artist Studios at Bevere Gallery on the edge of Worcester. The studios and artists’ gallery are open to visitors Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm.
