bio

Clem Whalley is a contemporary artist based in Cheltenham, using acrylic on canvas to explore still life and tablescapes. Her work is characterised by bold colours and graphic patterns that evoke emotion and capture people, places and moments in time - inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty in everyday moments. A self-taught artist, Clem draws deeply from personal memories and lived experiences to inspire subjects and colour palettes, whether prompted by a shared meal, a treasured object, or a fleeting conversation. Regularly coming back to these influences to inform ideas and process, her compositions often reflect an ongoing dialogue between memory and emotion. Clem’s upbringing in Cornwall and childhood travels through the Mediterranean have greatly influenced her visual language, drawing on experiences with food, culture and a deep appreciation for place. Her background as a Landscape Architect further informs her work, offering a unique lens on people, form, and the emotional impact of colour and composition. Through her art, Clem aims to spark conversation, evoke nostalgia, and celebrate the small joys that shape our lives. Her paintings encourage viewers to reconnect with fond memories – or be inspired to create new ones.
