Hilary is primarily a landscape artist who works in watercolour because she enjoys the fluidity, translucency and diffusion of colour that are particular to this medium. She often starts with a sketch made 'en plein air' which is later developed in the studio. Her style is expressive and leans towards the semi-abstract, evolving from an experimental approach. Underlying this is an energy which comes from connecting with the natural world - the space,colour, form and atmosphere found in the surrounding landscape.
