bio

A Botanical Artist, painting flowers, fruits and vegetables in watercolour. Karen paints with intricate detail, retaining the technical accuracy of the plant but placing emphasis on the aesthetics, artistry and the messages and stories plants can tell. In her art she explores themes of femininity, loss and healing through the botany and life cycle of plants; flower language and how they are used to communicate; and their use in medicine, folk lore and religion. Karen exhibits her original paintings regularly, often alongside other artists in partnership with SVA SITE Festival and as a member of The Stroud Artist’s Cooperative, around Gloucestershire, Bristol and Hay-on-Wye, and opens up her home art studio just outside Stroud, to visitors for Open Studio events. Karen teaches botanical art workshops in various venues around Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Herefordshire as well as running Botanical Art Retreats in Andalusia, Spain. Her next one will be held in September 2026. She also holds a popular weekly class in Stroud on a Wednesday evening for those wanting to develop their skills in botanical art and watercolour over a period of time.
