bio

Growing up in England and Australia was a varied and rich source for the internal well of imagery on which Mary now draws daily. Conventionally-trained as a painter and then as a medical artist, and after several more decades of working to medical briefs and portrait commissions, combined with teaching/facilitating people of all ages and backgrounds to find their own form of expression, today she follows her own path. Mary has exhibited widely since 1992. Her work is in private collections in Australia, USA, France and UK. It is also represented in the New Hall Collection of Women’s Art at Murray EdwardS College, Cambridge. She says “I believe we all interpret Life through our senses, as well as our brains. To be able to draw upon one’s own individual store - of thoughts, sounds, tastes, imagery, scents, and touch - is of advantage in understanding and illuminating the world in which we live,as we meet with other cultures, producing our own idiosyncratic responses to this earth of ours. “I work sustainably and almost exclusively with locally handmade organic watercolours and plant-based inks, with graphite, on a rough handmade Khadi paper. “You will, I hope, be able to connect with the imagery in these painted drawings, and enjoy them, as much for their oblique ways of looking at Life as for their freshness and handmade quality!”
