bio

Matt Rix is an emerging British folk artist known for his original naïve paintings, which combine timeless charm with contemporary appeal. Born in South Africa, he now lives with his family in an old farmhouse in rural Denbighshire, a home he is gradually restoring. His work draws inspiration from the everyday beauty of nature and animals and is shaped by a lifelong appreciation for naïve and traditional art, as well as his love of collecting old, timeworn objects that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Matt is happiest spending time with his family or exploring car boot sales in search of hidden treasures, delighting in simple, charming pieces of folk art and objects that tell a story. His distinctive paintings—ranging from expressive depictions of animals and naïve portraits to evocative nautical scenes—have attracted attention from interior designers and private collectors across the UK and internationally, with works now in homes in the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Sustainability lies at the heart of Matt’s practice. He transforms unwanted household paints, reclaimed canvases and boards, and discarded picture frames into artworks that are entirely unique. Matt welcomes collaborations with galleries, interior designers, and stockists who share his passion for distinctive, sustainable art, bringing character and authenticity to any collection or interior space. If you’d like to explore the possibility of working together, Matt would love to hear from you.
