bio

Sarah takes inspiration from textures and light in the natural world. Each piece usually starts as a reflection on a place travelled to. They develop from pencil sketches focused on composition, line and form. She is both a painter and printmaker, and the attention to surface and texture within her paintings is influenced by printing techniques. Sarah paints textured semi-abstract oils, loosely defined sea and landscapes from memory, layering up the oil paint with rollers and palette knives. Now London based, Sarah grew up in the Cotswold countryside and is influenced by these landscapes from her early years. She studied in Cheltenham before moving to London for her degree. Her most recent works are more mixed media in nature, blending acrylic, oils, pastels and charcoal to explore surface and mark-making in a less constrained way. The linocuts are often botanical in theme, drawing from tiny details in nature. Sarah hand mixes all of the inks for these prints to create her own tranquil colour palette. Each one is hand printed and finished with pencil details, linking her prints and paintings with the same rhythm of line. She studied Illustration at degree level and has been producing artwork in different medium ever since. Sarah has exhibited in many art fairs, exhibitions and open studio events over the years and is a member of an art collective called Skylark Galleries, based on London’s Southbank.
