bio

Tania is a painter based in Nailsworth, Stroud. She works from her studio at home and at Raw Umber Studios in Stroud. She primarily paints still lifes and interiors alla prima on board. Drawn to objects that have been overlooked or forgotten, in charity shops, or discovered in the back of a cupboard, Tania gives these objects new life and focus in her paintings, placing them within fresh and sometimes unexpected environments. She is fascinated by the interplay between textured backgrounds and simple forms; how light, tone, and composition can transform the ordinary into something quietly resonant. Her series of interiors invites the viewer to linger in places that feel safe, intriguing, and alive with presence; spaces where memory, mood, and materiality gently intertwine. Her work has been exhibited across the UK, particularly in Brighton, London, Cheltenham, Bath, and Stroud. With a background in PR and having worked for the Crafts Council, Tania has a keen interest in contemporary painting and the applied arts, enjoying strong ties with several local artists, regularly arranging and participating in group shows. She is an active member of various local arts societies and set up the Stroud Artistic Community, a local networking and information-sharing resource, as a way of further strengthening these ties within the community.
