After dining with friends at The Ivy in Cheltenham, surrounded by its flamboyant decor and nostalgic atmosphere, I thought this historic building's interior would be fascinating to paint. I embarked on two square panoramas which virtually encompass the whole restaurant, highlighting the curvature of the rotunda dome (based on The Pantheon in Rome) and further elevating the grandeur of the restaurant.

By employing a ghost impressionism style, I gave the figures a surreal appearance that I hoped would transcend time and make them blend in as part of the furniture, to give the painting a contemporary, yet perpetual quality.
