ALY LLOYD
Aly Lloyd is a contemporary artist, working in paint, print and textiles from her Cotswold studio. Whether examining the interplay between geometric abstraction and organic shapes, or exploring visual perception through pattern and structure, her works are sensory experiences that delve into how we perceive and organise information.
Informed by a PhD background in visual psychology, design communication and computer science, alongside an ongoing interest in neurodiversity and sensory processing, her process begins with digitally manipulating images, before translating them through the physical act of painting. Playing with the processes of digital image processing and the tactility of paint, she manipulates across mediums to create images with a fresh, bold style which pushes acrylic painting out of its traditional space.
Using acrylic paint, a medium suited to her fast-paced, intuitive process, blending it with the precision and intricacy of digital manipulation, Aly has developed a distinctive voice, which can be felt across the breadth of her work. Whether choosing to work in monochrome, dazzling colour or muted tones, this blurring of lines, of modern and traditional, virtual and physical, sings through.
Her latest body of work sees Aly working across material surfaces, creating a series of light-responsive paintings that shift with movement, keep perception active, and slow down the act of looking. Rendered onto tactile surfaces such as velvet, moiré and denim, these works emphasise the experience of seeing, enhancing a viewer's perception and senses, losing them to the bodily folds of materiality.
These works are a perfect balance of Aly's skill and deeply thoughtful, experimental practice. Playing on a delicious rendering of fabric, the tactility of soft, undulating surfaces, and disrupted with sharp geometric abstraction of reality.

Aly has been a finalist in multiple awards, exhibited nationally, featured in many
publications, and had artworks used for album covers. Her studio is open to appointments, and you can find out more about her practice, where to see her work and purchase her originals and prints over on her portfolio. Follow the link below.
Her latest exhibition and first solo presentation at Sixteen Gallery comes at the end of this month. Making Sense showcases her latest pieces, inviting viewers to engage their senses and physically alter surfaces through interactive works. Find out more here and mark your calendars!
