ANNA LANSLEY

Anna Lansley is a printmaker based in Cheltenham who began her linocut journey in 2021. Working primarily in reduction linocut, she creates handprinted editions inspired by the quiet moments, landscapes and places around her. Often inviting the viewer to slow down and pause, Anna's work captures the beauty of stillness.

Anna's prints come from a place of deep observation of what is around her; be it a sweeping landscape, a natural scene, or a still life, each image encapsulates a personal view, a moment or a thing noticed and beautifully recorded. With a degree in photography, it's easy to see the photographer's eye in the way Anna approaches printmaking – looking to capture moments which are gone in a minute, sharing them with the viewer, encouraging appreciation for the fleeting.

In her latest work, Anna aims to capture a sense of quiet presence. She does this seemingly effortlessly through bold contemporary compositions with carefully balanced, serene colour palettes, often experimenting with compositions which are unusual for linocut artists (but which wouldn't be at all for modern fine art photographers). Although the finished pieces reflect an air of calm simplicity, Anna's multi-layered reduction linocut technique is far from simplistic, with inks extended and colours built up on top of each other over and over, resulting in a delicate balance of effort and ease.

Driven by her creative whims, Anna intuitively follows inspiration and prints images which vary in theme or style, with a playful, continually learning attitude to her practice. Sometimes this includes working to a brief for open calls or charity exhibitions, which inspire her out of her comfort zone to create unique pieces which both raise her profile and benefit some excellent causes like the Thought Press Project.

You can buy Anna's prints directly from her using the links in her portfolio. To catch her wonderful work in real life, give her a follow on Instagram to keep up with the exhibitions and markets she's appearing at, and if you're local, you can find her new beautiful piece, 'Blue Vase Study I', in our Small Works exhibition at Sixteen Gallery until 5 May.
