THIS FRIDAY'S FEATURED ARTIST IS MAIKE NIELSEN
Maike Nielsen's highly saturated, vivacious works celebrate the joy of human connection to nature in all its forms. Using landscapes to convey meaning and emotion, Maike paints the world around her and her personal response to the woods and the water, drawing the viewer to explore their own found feelings. She engages the viewer with her love of light and life and interprets the complexity of human emotions through layered, textural acrylics imbued with symbolism and thought.
Believing firmly in the transformative effects of nature, Maike's work is full of the joys and beauty of the natural world, striving to lift the viewer into thoughts of positive contemplation. Painting the landscapes she knows and loves, from the Cotswolds to Hamburg, through her work she aims to foster connections within her subjects and with the viewer.
Her bright, carefully chosen colours depict both delicate evocative scenes and the majesty of natures wide horizons through fluid layering of paint. She is able to capture the play of light between trees, and ripples in water in a way that is at once both fantastical but decisively real; and it is this skill that grounds viewers in her world enabling them to feel all the emotions she is conveying.
