CAPTURING THE MAGIC IS A RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS FROM OVER FIVE DECADES BY RENOWNED COTSWOLD ARTIST AUDREY HAMMOND.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

AUDREY HAMMOND

Audrey Hammond (1927 - 2019) was a Winchcombe artist, known and loved for her mainly watercolour paintings of the Cotswold landscape.

Over five decades her work evolved through her artistic explorations, working initially with oils then watercolour, pastel and mixed media. This exhibition is a testament to the creative journey an artist can make during a lifetime following their creative inclinations and desire to share their view of the world that surrounds them.

Audrey studied painting at Reading University Fine Art Department and Bournemouth Collage of Art, starting her creative career in display at Beales department store in Bournemouth. Subsequently marrying, starting a family and moving to Buckinghamshire, Audrey took up painting in oils and teaching at the local Art Collage.

Later the family moved to Winchcombe in Gloucestershire, where Audrey fell in love with the rolling hills and Cotswold villages. She found that working in watercolour and pastel better suited the new subject matter. Family holidays were often taken on the Southwest coast of Hampshire, Dorset and Cornwall which inspired more paintings capturing the magic of these charming English coastal areas.

Audreys work has been exhibited many times: locally in the Cotswolds and group exhibitions in London and elsewhere including the Royal Watercolour Society, The Pastel Society and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Audrey Hammonds work is represented in Public and private collections in Britain and worldwide.
