SIXTEEN GALLERY | 18 – 24 JUNE

GERALD CRITTLE, COLLEEN DAVIES, WENDY GOLDING AND BEVERLEY PERRY PRESENT CONTEMPORARY VISIONS.

AN EXPLORATION OF TEXTURE, MOVEMENT AND COLOUR.

Contemporary Visions brings together four talented artists from Gloucestershire, each presenting works that embody their own unique journey into the realms of texture, movement, and colour. Showcasing two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces they invite viewers to engage with the tactile qualities, vibrant hues, an dynamic compositions that define their individual practices.

The exhibition serves as a celebration of personal expression in which these artists interpret the world around them.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

GERALD CRITTLE

Gerald Crittle artwork

Gerald Crittle creates experimental art by blending paints, pigments, inks, and sprays to create unique shapes and patterns, inviting viewers to discover new details with each look. He adds texture to boards and makes spontaneous marks often with a planet as the focal point. Using a flat tool to spread materials he lets it organically take shape. Most works are finished with clear resin to highlight texture and colour, which encourages you to touch it.

COLLEEN DAVIES

Colleen Davies ceramics

An African soul – born and educated in Africa. She enjoys painting, drawing, and making art out of balls of clay, often combining the two.

Her body of work is an exploration of colour and texture inspired by the visual effects of weather and tide on coastal edges and nature. She works intuitively and experimentally when hand building and with clean cut precision when throwing, often combining both. Lockdown brought about an emergence of wildlife which led to commissions to make pets.

WENDY GOLDING

Wendy Golding painting

Based in Gloucester, as an abstract artist Wendy uses spontaneous marks to evoke movement, light, and texture within her pieces. Her work features both fine delicate layers with areas of pronounced, heavy texture, creating dynamic interplay across the surface of her work. Influenced by Kintsugi and its philosophy, Wendy is especially drawn to Abstract Expressionism, a movement characterised by its focus on emotional, spontaneous, and abstract responses. This philosophy resonates deeply within her own work.

BEVERLEY PERRY

Beverley Perry painting

Beverley’s work is influenced by her strong love of nature, and the world around her. Expressing warmth, colour and personality, they capture the mood and atmosphere of her surroundings using vibrant colour, texture and light.

She combines the use of photography, sketching, a lot of imagination, and a wealth of artistic licence. Beverley sells her work UK and worldwide.
