PAUL TOWEY PRESENTS GOD IS LONELY; AN EXHIBITION OF AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL AND UNASHAMEDLY CONFESSIONAL PAINTINGS AND OBJECTS
Synopsis:
" My work is autobiographical and unashamedly confessional. In both dimensions I attempt to recreate moments from childhood or to invent a desire from adolescence. The idea for each work will dictate whether I paint or make. Votive objects as works of Art, using provocative mementoes from romantic relationships. Paintings depicting emotional moments from my childhood as way of retouching the past. Rebuilding, in miniature, now demolished structures. All of it elevating the mundane to deification. I believe the themes I address are essentials of love and loss. Sometimes Ed the work is explicitly Frank, but I want all of it to be a conspiratorial mirror, reflecting something of the viewer’s own history: a warm whispered, “I was here, too”. "
