JO BRAMHAM-SMITH PRESENTS A SELECTION OF HER ABSTRACT PAINTINGS IN HER SOLO EXHIBITION "ACROSS THERE"

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Like all artists I express myself through my work. Colours are absolutely fascinating for me, the way they interact and celebrate with each other. I like to fill the viewer with positivity and share my joy of the world and the places I visit.

I enjoy travelling and finding new places, I collect photos and images as I move and I use them to remind me of how I felt when I discovered a new place. I paint the feeling with hints of the place, my work is abstract and I want the viewer to feel they are elsewhere or to feel positive emotion

My work is constantly evolving, I experiment with different mark making and often collage in my own print or mixed media in to my larger paintings.

In the last eighteen months I am mainly working using oils and cold wax. It enables me to develop more interesting marks and layers of colour which gives a sense of time passing and exposes earlier colours and marks. The process allows me to be more expressive. This can be thrilling, although planned, it can lead to exciting results as layers merge and those once almost hidden are partly revealed.

I always enjoy visiting places and I try to evoke the emotion I get from visiting new places and learning about what happened and happens in them.

I have exhibited locally many times and also more recently further afield. In the next year I will be having several solo exhibitions which will allow me to exhibit my work in cohesive collections."
