NEW ARTISTS IN THE COLLECTIVE

ARTISTS | NEW

JOANNA LOGAN AND MARGARET POWELL

This month, we are introducing two of the new artists in the collective, who have joined us in October.

These two artists show just how unique an artists take on a subject can be. On the surface both artists look at aspects of landscapes and still lifes, but with their own style and perspective creating two wildly different bodies of work. Joanna brings detailed garden landscapes and wildlife in delicate watercolour, while Margaret showcases classical contemplative still lifes and bold landscapes in oil and acrylic. Find out a little more about them their artist practice and delve into their portfolio's below.

JOANNA LOGAN

At the heart of Joanna's practice lies a profound connection between art and nature and she is inextricably both an artist and a gardener. Her duality of practice informs both her artistic creations and her approach to cultivating gardens, drawing inspiration directly from the elements she likes to work in. In her artwork she interprets colour and atmosphere through her watercolour painting, creating works which are both delicate and weighty.

Having illustrated a number of books about gardens and garden design, Joanna is able to work with great detail and knowledge of her subject to create beautiful pieces in her thoughtfully chosen colour palette. She paints with the structure and rhythm of natural forms, rendering works which live and breath evoking a very real sense of place or personality in her subjects.

MARGARET POWELL

Margaret is a classically trained artist who paints a wide range of genres from landscapes to pet portraits using both oil and acrylic. She often paints still lifes; reflecting everyday items but with personal connections, adding emotional depth to her depictions of contemporary scenes. These images, often of flowers, have an poignancy to them and an almost conversational balance between the flowers and their setting, giving a weight to the narrative or backstory to what the viewer is looking at.

Margaret is inspired by Impressionism and Colourism which comes across in her vivid, untimid yet delicately rendered works which burst with colour and texture. Working at medium and small sizes allows her to explore the intimate, quiet power of an image and allows a viewer to interact at close proximity to fully explore the marks and details put into each piece.
