DAISY EMBURY
Daisy Embury is a painter working in oils creating delicate and detailed portraits of flora. Her works reflect the beauty and fragility of the natural world and our connection to it with a focus on often over looked details.
With a formative interest in the artists of the Renaissance, and experience both at university in London and the Florence Academy of Arts, Daisy has explored the worlds of portraiture and nature as she has moved through the world developing her own practice and gaining professional experience in Melbourne for Louis Vuitton and as a creative therapist here in the UK.
Currently, her practice is rooted in the relationship between humans and nature. Through botanicals, she reflects personal and shared human experiences and uses her pieces to hold a mirror to viewers, encouraging them to see their own beauty, fragility and humanity.
Her floral portraits are at once, intense in their scrutiny of her subjects, and loving in their reality and sincerity. By highlighting a plant of flower's individual details, Daisy shows the wonders of natural forms, but also the flaws; tears or imperfections, she captures everything with a deep care and sensitivity. It is in this way she reflects on the human experience, encouraging the viewer to take in both perfection and blemish and to see the beauty in all of it.
Daisy's work might be delicate, but it is powerful. Utilising negative space and larger-than-life size, all attention is pulled to her subject; they dominate, they flourish, there is no hiding here. No environment or context is given, simply the flower, there to reflect yourself onto, to investigate or simply admire in all its glory.
Daisy creates works bright and vivacious in colour, natural, but on maximum. Colours hyped up even more by their white or black, neutral backgrounds. Her subjects are both lit and with light emanating from them, they create their own environment, a reflection of the viewers mood perhaps; serenity or wonder.
