THIS WEEK OUR FEATURED ARTIST IS JOANNA LOGAN
Joanna Logan is a visual artist who has worked across mediums and styles since her studies at Camberwell and Central St Martins and throughout her career as an illustrator. Her work currently focuses on watercolour pieces depicting landscapes, nature and animals.
At the heart of Joanna's practice lies a profound connection between art and the natural world, and she is inextricably both an artist and a gardener. Her duality of practice informs both her artistic creations and her approach to cultivating gardens, drawing inspiration directly from the elements she likes to work in. In her artwork, she interprets her subjects with her own sensitive visual language into paintings which are both delicate and weighty. She shows a very clear sense of care and attention to the subjects she paints.
Having illustrated several books about gardens and garden design, Joanna is able to work with great detail and knowledge of her subject to create beautiful pieces in her thoughtfully chosen muted colour palette. Her sense of line and illustrative style work alongside her accuracy to lend a tenderness to the formal aspects of her composition. She paints with the structure and rhythm of natural forms, rendering works which live and breathe, evoking a very real sense of place or personality.
Joanna is currently working towards her exhibition at Sixteen Gallery later in the year
