OWEN EADDY
Owen Eaddy began his painting journey whilst at Swansea University in 2013. Working across oils and gouache, supported by charcoal and pencil sketching, his practice is one of experimentation and creative development, led by the places and people which interest him. Beginning with portraits, he quickly moved into painting the landscape and draws both inspiration and motivation from life and plein air painting.

Owen's landscape paintings, whether in oil or gouache, showcase feather-light, impressionistic style mark making which capture both the atmosphere and interplay of light and shadow in a playful, effervescent way. He beautifully portrays light dancing on water, licking walls or whispering through grasses, rendering a likeness of a place imbued with feeling.
Keeping his colour palette very natural, you get the feeling through Owen's work that this is an artist interested in the very real beauty of the world around him. Not needing to intensify or falsify the natural palettes he discovers, he looks to simply convey what he sees, be it buildings, fields or seas playfully in beautifully balanced but organic colour.
In Owen's work, there is always a note of interaction between the artist and his subject. Whether it is a landscape or a person, there is always a sense of dialogue – of an artist responding to the place he is in on a given day, or a genuine feeling of interaction between a sitter and someone closely observing a moment. It's the notes in this exchange that come from a dedication to painting from life or en plein air; they give the work a feeling of reaction or spontaneity, of a reality caught in line and gesture.
