ARTISTS | INTRODUCING
EMMA PRICE AND KEVIN NZUMBI MUTEMI
For May, we're introducing two of the newest members of the collective, who've brought some beautiful new work to the site. Both artists work with traditional mediums; oil paint and pastel respectively, but push their work creatively into new contemporary places. Find out a little about these two fantastic artists and their practice.
EMMA PRICE
Emma is an abstract and semi-abstract landscape painter, living and practising in Surrey. In her painting, she explores the emotion and memory of the natural landscapes which she has called home in both England and Australia.
She paints intuitively and expressively, building layers of ephemeral colour into suggestions of place and recollection. Using a delicately muted palette she creates a deep intensity of feeling in her pieces which invite viewers into a sense of tranquil peace and sometimes solitude.
With a clear love for the nature she depicts, Emma's works become stories about spaces, our own and the artists, and the way in which we inhabit them. She lovingly communicates this sense of an environment with ethereal layers of paint washed over each other to create a depth and texture. Sometimes with the simple addition of a mark or detail to represent a wall or a path or the idea of a tree, Emma gives life to her paintings and gives the viewer a connection to a place.
KEVIN NZUMBI - MUTEMI
Kevin is a pastel artist based in Heidelberg, creating vibrant, contemporary explorations in pastels, pushing the different forms of the medium into painterly textures, using colour to convey feeling and atmosphere. Winner of the Catalogue Award First Prize and the President's Prize at 2025's Pastel Society Annual Exhibition with two of his figurative works, his latest project sees him exploring beyond figuration and investigating quiet, still moments of everyday life.
His scenes are intimate and imbued with the weight of intention and personal meaning, yet familiar and accessible for the viewer to connect with both the artist and the scene. In his current collection, Kevin uses a lovely soft palette that renders the images quiet and serene despite their brightness, allowing for the natural colours to sing through in his fresh style. An examination of fizzing, quiet power, his scenes seem calm, drawn into the stillness through his frenetic lines.
