EXHIBITIONS | FROM THE COLLECTIVE
This summer is all set to be hot, busy and beautiful, and so many of our artists have wonderful things going on for you to explore! Check out our run down of all the exhibitions to catch this July.
25 June – 1 July
ALY LLOYD
SIXTEEN GALLERY, CHELTENHAM
Making Sense is Aly Lloyd's debut solo exhibition of textile paintings, exploring how we see and sense. This exhibition presents a series of light-responsive paintings, rendered onto tactile surfaces such as velvet, moire and denim that change with light and movement, and emphasise the experience of seeing, perception and the senses. Bringing forward a philosophy of accessibility, participation and reconnecting art with the everyday, the exhibition invites viewers to engage their senses and physically alter surfaces through interactive works.
1 – 7 July
ELLIE THOMAS
THE GARDENS GALLERY, CHELTENHAM
Ellie Thomas joins three other local artists in group exhibition Precious Lands at The Gardens Gallery. A landscape-themed exhibition celebrating personal experiences of place whilst also reflecting on human impact and shared responsibility towards environmental well-being. The exhibition features a variety of two dimensional works, alongside a small collection of jewellery.
2 – 8 July
TAMSIN HYDE
SIXTEEN GALLERY, CHELTENHAM
Featuring work created over the past year, The Lie Of The Land centres on the experience of walking as a way of seeing, remembering and belonging. The work grows out of time spent moving slowly through the English countryside, where change is subtle but constant. The exhibition considers landscape as something shaped as much by people as by nature. The act of walking becomes a way of connecting with those who have passed through the same spaces before, tracing routes that have been worn into the land through use rather than design.
3 – 5 July
CATRIONA DRY & OLIVIA MITCHELL
LANSDOWN ART STUDIOS, CHELTENHAM
Lansdown Art studios once again open their studios and welcome the public, this time for their Summer Exhibition. Including Olivia Mitchell and Catriona Dry, the studios will display over 500 original artworks at the town’s largest independent art exhibition. Featuring special guest artists, visitors are invited to explore working studios and visit the corridor gallery, all set within their quirky, characterful studio space.
3 July – 2 August
ANITA SAUNDERS
CORINIUM MUSEUM GALLERY, CIRENCESTER
Inspired by her Cotswold childhood and a lifelong appreciation of British wildlife, Anita Saunders presents A Country Life. Bringing together oil paintings, lino and screen prints this collection reflects Anita’s distinctive style and love of pattern, colour and form. The exhibition is a joyful celebration of the birds and animals that inspire her – inviting visitors to pause and reconnect with the beauty of the everyday countryside.
9 – 15 July
MIKE SKINNER
SIXTEEN GALLERY, CHELTENHAM
British Art And Objects Of Virtue is an exhibition curated by Mike Skinner, in association with the Jubilee Galleries in Cirencester. Mike is curating a group exhibition with a twist. His artworks are embedded in the ongoing narrative of British art and so a selection of works that reflect this ethos will be exhibited alongside pieces from the Jubilee Galleries in Cirencester.
9 July – 29 August
