My etchings are an extension of drawing; a material engagement that expresses an experiential view of place.
My etching was informed by the words chosen by myself and Ulla-Carin Winter; ‘water, surface and remains’ and the desire to explore black ink. The subject matter, the Stroudwater canal, runs behind the old mill building housing the GPC print studios. The canals used to carry wools and textiles made in Stroud’s many industrial mills, to the city ports. I have benefitted enormously from my collaboration with Ulla-Carin, who has given me a great deal of inspiring guidance, I still hear her words, “…add more black!”
